Welcome to 2012!
This is the year of anniversaries and commemorations! I am amazed at all of the things that are getting special recognition this year! I plan to incorporate many of these events into the Trip
Schedule during 2012. These are some of the destinations that are celebrating anniversaries in 2012.
100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting in the USA. We will be going to Savannah, Georgia, the birthplace of Juliette Low who is the founder of Girl Scouts.
100th Commemoration of the sinking of the Titanic. We will visit a special exhibit in Detroit at The Ford Museum. There will also be a trip to Nova Scotia. The first responders were from Halifax and there are many passengers buried in the cemetery there.
125th Anniversary of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. This trip will be offered through the Michigan Parks and Recreation Association which is also celebrating its’ 45th year of Senior Get-Aways at the Grand Hotel.
150th Commemoration of the Civil War. There will be a trip this year to the Civil War Battlefields of Harper’s Ferry, Antietam, and Gettysburg.
200th Commemoration of the War of 1812. There is a new National Park in Michigan dedicated to the War of 1812 and Battle of the River Raisin.
Instead of sitting home in a comfortable chair,
It is time to think about going somewhere!
Perhaps you'd like to see some place new,
Or visit a place with a beautiful view!
Take in a ballgame or a broadway show,

Reminder! Even if a trip is sold out or the deadline for signing up has passed, there may be openings. Sometimes there is a last minute cancellation. It is always worth a phone call!
If you are heading to Florida or somewhere else in the south, please let me know. The post office does not forward bulk mail. You can either have me stop your newsletter for a few months, change the address, or switch to email. I am charged for each newsletter that is returned to me if it not deliverable. I try to keep the addresses current.
